Water
Water may be the most abundant resource on Earth, but clean water is much more scarce. As preppers we must have a good filtration system in effect for drinkable water. The average person will only last three days without water, and far less if they were engaging in a lot of physical activity.
Start by storing water. Buy bottled water and store it in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight. A closet works really well. Bottled water that is kept out of direct sunlight will last for years and is ready to drink or carry if your plan is to bug out. Aldi has 24 packs of bottled waters for $2.29.
After you have stored up a good bit of water, try to find some means of filtration. There are many types of water filters out there, and they vary greatly in price. You want one that is going to filter out 99% of microbial bacteria or close to it. Start with a smaller hand held filter like a Katadyn. I have a MSR Miniworks water filter that works great. After that, try and get a big stationary water filter that can filter a lot of water. The Big Berkey water filters are really good and they use gravity to work, so no power is needed.
